Before you take up that Nursing job in the Government or private hospital, ask yourself:

– Would my vision of being an holistic change agent be given an edge if I start working in the government/Private setting?

– Would I have the luxury of time to pursue both formal and Informal Education Programme while working with the government or private setting?

– Would the environment and mindset of people working in this setting be a boost to me or detrimental to my career vision?

Ask your self these questions and critically examine whatever you are doing now and see if your dreams are been captured in your activities

The rich and impactful Nurses I know who are blazing the Trail in the areas of Advocacy, Politics, Media, Cooperate organisations, Research, and Education are not working in any private or Government establishments.

Mention 5 Nurses that you look up to in the government hospital, and I would show you 20 Nurses whom you need to be under their Mentorship.

The sole aim of this article is never to discredit any Nurse working in the Private or Government setting as they have been exceptional over the years in delivering quality health services through International best practices.

But as we all know, not everyone can function optimally in the Clinical Setting as well as NGOs and Cooperate and Media organisations. Nursing is multifaceted and has diverse areas which directly or indirectly captures our dreams and visions.

To all the Nurses out there who have a burning passion to be a change agent in the profession, I indulge you to think twice before taking any job offered to you as the later results of this decision usually includes:

¶ Poor career growth

¶ Little or no room to attain more formal and informal education

¶ Job dissatisfaction that in turn tempts you to leave the profession

¶ Under utilisation of your potentials which gradually leads to the death of it

¶ No accolades for most of the Job well done

¶ Wearing out and mental stress because of the poor management of manpower in these settings.

For your Dreams and Vision to get a boost as a Nurse, kindly follow some of the tips below:

1) Join an Organization or Association that captures your career Goals and Vision.

2) Involve in more volunteering Jobs as this would increase your exposure and help broaden your horizon in your scope of thinking

3) Create a Niche for yourself

4) Be Under mentorship that allow you to grow even beyond your mentor, but remember it is gradual.

5) Always remember that survival is a lifetime trail and your involvement in these activities ideally don’t cost you much even when you have a lot to gain

6) Believe In Yourself

Know today that you have all the ability to achieve your dreams. Be resourceful and never doubt your abilities. CONCIOUSLY BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

7) Work very hard and Smart in all of your pursuit.

8) READ: At least one hour daily. The result is that your mind won’t remain the same, you will begin to solve problem others cant solve.

9) Attain certification in Health and Non-Health related courses: This makes you prepared and gives you an edge when an opportunity comes forth.

10) Become an IT Savvy.

Surf the internet effortlessly and be active on most social media handles to connect with like minded individuals and get access to Quality information. Make Google your best friend.

11) Speak positively always about the profession you wish to change as this gives you the consciousness to improve lives and stay on track.

6 Productive Things To Do In The Morning When You Wake Up



Have you ever woken up in the morning and were confused on what to do? It happens like that. Sometimes we just want to lie on the bed all day long doing nothing. Two of the most important hours of the day are the early morning and when we are about to retire at night. You know why, it is the time of the day that determines how productive you will be and how soundly you will sleep. To make the best use of each day, there are some productive things to do in the morning as soon as you are out of the bed.

“If you want to change your day, the best time to start is in the morning.”

Years ago, I used to wake up late and tired. During those times, I left tons of things undone. The problem with waking up late is that you will feel tired and archy. In fact, the more you stay in bed, the more you have some useless dreams. And before you say Jack Robinson, the day is far spent.

“Make it an habit to never let the sun meet you on your bed. You can’t change the world when you are still on your bed till 8am”

Some of the productive things to do in the morning are;

1). Wake up early

If you want to make the best of your day, you have got to wake up early! As much as you must try to do so, you must also try to sleep early. Early to bed, early to rise. I have not seen a successful man who spend half of his day on bed. When you wake up early, you will be full of energy and be ready to face the day. You will think you spend more than 24 hours per day if you inculcate the habit of waking up early. By the time you wake up so late, the world has gone without you.

2). Pray

Praying is the best way ever to start the day with. When you wake up and pray, you commit the day to the hand of Most High and automatically will feel calm and full of faith and fearless. If you are that religious, you can combine with some verses in the Bible.

3). Water therapy

Water therapy is the drinking of about 1-2 glasses of water every morning immediately you brush your teeth. According to Chris Bailey, one of the best things you can do when you wake up is drink at least 500mls of water. Wondering what it can do for you? The health effects of drinking in the morning among many others are; It fires up your metabolism, it helps you flush out toxins and helps your brain(your brain tissue is 75% water if not properly hydrated, it may operate on less fuel and you may end up drained).

4). Shun social media

Social media is the best way to waste your time. If you want to take control of your time, make sure you are not addicted to social media. If what you do as soon as you wake up in the morning is to go straight to your social media, you will end up not  praying, no exercise, and late for work or lecture. Social media are made for us, we are not made for social media.” If you are not expecting someone for something important, make it an habit to keep social media for later. Social media has the good and the bad side. Be in control!

5). Exercise

A minimum of about 10-15minutes exercise each day, we do a great deal in our systems. When you perform some exercises, you strengthens your muscles and bones and will feel stronger again. Whenever I wake up every morning, have made it an habit to do some pushups and some stretching before going ahead to my daily task. The thing that will happen when you are too tired to exercise your body is that you will feel more tired to face the storm of the day. Exercise helps too in blood circulation and over long time, prevents some cardiovascular disorders.

6). Affirmations

Early morning affirmations is more than helpful. It is a form of autosuggestion which gives you the confidence you need to face the day. When you affirm, you either say positive things to yourself or otherwise. When you affirm, you give your subconscious mind something to act upon.

Some of the affirmations I used are; I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.” (And I end up being fearless), happy the man, happy he alone, who call today his own, he who say tomorrow do thy worst, for I have liv’d today.” Look to this day for it is life, the very life of life.” I can handle it, I can fix with God on my side, I am blessed, I am favoured. and so on. Do not only say that, put them where you can see them more often.

To add to these, listen to good music. Some of the health benefits of music reduces stress and anxiety, decreases pain and may aid memory. You can listen to music while bathing (I do this all the time), in your car, even while you are relaxing. You will see that when you do all or some of these things, you will end up be in control of your day and end up doing more. You may not be able to do all, there is no time for that. But there is always time for the important things.
